The New York Police Department NYPD frequently has open positions in law enforcement and civilian positions. To become a Police Officer you must first pass a civil service exam. Additionally, to become a New York City Police Officer, you must have 60 college credits (with a least a 2.0 GPA) from an accredited college or university. The only exception to this requirement is if you have completed two years active military service. You must pass a medical exam, psychological exam, physical agility exam, background and character investigation. On the day you are hired you must be a United States Citizen, at least 21 years old, have a valid drivers license without restrictions, not have been convicted of a felony and be a resident of New York City (including Staten Island), Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange or Putnam county.
